Biography

Vladimir Davydov was born on April 15, 1923 in the village of Aleikino (now the Sursky District of the Ulyanovsk Region ) in a peasant family. In 1934, he and his family moved to Irkutsk . He graduated from six classes of secondary school, then school factory apprenticeship . He worked as a turner at the Irkutsk Heavy Machinery Plant named after V. V. Kuibyshev. In August 1941, Davydov voluntarily went to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since September of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the Oryol-Bryansk defensive operation , the battle for the Caucasus , the Novorossiysk-Taman and the Kerch-Eltigen operation . In the battles he was wounded six times. By November 1943, Guards Lieutenant Vladimir Davydov commanded a walking reconnaissance platoon of the 15th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 2nd Guards Rifle Division of the 56th Army of the North Caucasus Front. He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Kuban , Taman and Crimea [1] .

During the fighting in the Krasnodar Territory and on the Taman Peninsula, Davydov personally went to the rear of the enemy six times, took seven prisoners, delivered valuable information about the enemy. During the period from September 15 to November 5, 1943, a platoon of Davydov destroyed and captured about 190 enemy soldiers and officers. Davydov himself personally destroyed several dozen enemy soldiers and officers in those battles. On November 3, 1943, when during the crossing of the Kerch Strait , the Black Sea Fleet's transport ships were subjected to an airstrike, the boat carrying Davydov's platoon was damaged. Davydov organized a fire extinguishing, and then, replacing the wounded helmsman, brought the boat to the shore. In battles on the bridgehead on the Kerch Peninsula, a reconnaissance group of five, led by Davydov, in a battle near the village of Baksy (now the village of Glazovka of the Leninsky district of Crimea) destroyed several enemy soldiers and took one more prisoner [1] .
