Tooth abscess

Tooth abscess is an infectious process that is caused by the accumulation of pus in the inner or outer surface of the alveolar process of the upper jaw or the alveolar part of the lower jaw. Symptoms

An abscess is characterized by constant throbbing and shooting pains. With pressure or heat applied to the tooth, there can also be pain attacks. The formation of edema at the base of the tooth, gums and / or cheeks is possible, which can be reduced by applying ice.

In some cases, a tooth abscess may perforate the bone, moving to adjacent tissues, and causing swelling of the face. In some cases, there is inflammation of the lymph nodes in the neck, there is a noticeable swelling. Sometimes patients complain of migraine .

Treatment

Successful treatment of tooth abscess consists in the detection and removal of the source of infection, and may consist of both antibiotic prescription [1] and drainage . If the tooth can be restored, then root canal therapy is performed. Teeth that cannot be repaired are removed.

Abscesses may not heal for several reasons:

  • Cyst
  • Poor root canal therapy
  • Vertical fracture of the tooth root
  • Related periodontal disease
  • Penetration of the roots of the teeth in the maxillary sinus
