Biography

Stanislav Zholkevsky was the son of Nikolai Zholkevsky, who died, apparently, during the war [ which one? ] with Wallachia. It is known that Stanislav, along with his brother Nikolai, participated in the war of Stephen Batory against Danzig , as well as in all wars against Ivan the Terrible . [2] In the years 1536-1537 he was a comrade , in 1563-1566 - the captain of the line defense .

After the death of his father, Stanislav received a rich inheritance - Turinka in Lviv land, Volya and Nestavitsa in the Helm land, and together with his brother became the owner of three more villages in the Helm land. He actively developed his possessions, laying modern commodity-money relations. In 1566, he received from a relative of Andrzej Vysoky Vinniki in Lviv land, and as a dowry of Sophia Lipskaya - Savchin and part of Koskov in Belz land, then he received from Vysoky four more villages in the Vinnik region in the form of donations to pay debts and satisfy the requirements of the heirs . [2] In 1569, Stanislav Zholkevsky was a delegate to the Sejm from the Belz Voivodeship . [3]

After the death of his wife, Stanislav Zholkevsky married the successor of Andrzej Vysoky, which again brought him material benefits. In 1578, he owned 17 villages in Lviv land and 6 in Belz, Przemysl and the Krasnostavsky district. In 1570, he bought 7 more villages from the Kamenetsky, including Brody , for which in 1584 he acquired the status of a city . Next to Brody, he built a castle, which he named Lubitsch in honor of his family coat of arms . [2]

After the death of his second wife, Stanislav Zholkevsky married for the third time, and the third wife brought him Kukezov as a dowry (later sold by Zebrzydowski). [2]

Zholkevsky was very popular among the local gentry, and several times was elected ambassador to the Sejm. During the reign of Stefan Batory worked with Jan Zamoysky , and also served the king. For career reasons, he converted from Orthodoxy to Catholicism. Thanks to the patronage of Zamoysky, in 1578 he became the Elder of the Medyk, in 1580 - the Galantian coughing, in 1581 - the Russian governor.

Stanislav Zholkevsky died in 1588. He was buried in Lviv in the cathedral . [one]
