Biography
Hugon was the son of King Seisilloug Meirig ap Divnual . He inherited the throne of Seisilloug after the death of his father. Hugon is referred to by the name Guocaun map Mouric in a document in Old English known as Harlean genealogies (section XXVI). It is believed that this document was compiled in the kingdom of Deheibart .
The Gwentian chronicle gives him another pedigree, calling him “the son of Morid, the son of Llivarchus the Gray” [1] . This Morid is referred to as the ruler of Ceredigion, who died in 830, in the Gwentian Chronicle [2] . This Llyvarh the Gray was a descendant of Eiddon the Black (Euddin ap Keredig [3] ) from the side branch of the Keredigion dynasty [4] .
Hugon married his sister Anharad to marry Rodry the Great .
The “ Annals of Cumbria ” report that Hugon ap Meyrig died as a result of drowning, and date his death in 871. He was succeeded by his nephew Cadell up Rodry .
