Karol Boromeusz Alexander Hoffmann ( Polish: Karol Boromeusz Aleksander Hoffman , 1798 , village of Veruhuv near Warsaw (now West Warsaw County , Masovian Voivodeship , Poland ) - July 6, 1875 , Blazewitz near Dresden ) - Polish writer, historian, publicist, lawyer and publisher . Corresponding Member of the Academy of Knowledge (since 1873). Honorary member of the Poznan "Society of Friends of Science" (1869-1875).

Biography

From 1828 he worked as a legal adviser to the Polish Bank, in 1830 he was a member of its management team as one of the directors.

In 1828-1830 he published the legal journal Thimes Polska in Warsaw.

In 1829 he married Clementine Tanska , a Polish writer. A participant in the Polish November uprising (1830) , after the suppression of which he emigrated with his wife in 1831, lived in Dresden , then in Paris .

In exile in Paris, he belonged to the party of Adam Jerzy Czartoryski .

In 1837-1839, he edited the newspaper Chronicle of Polish Emigration.

In 1848 he moved to Dresden . He was a member of the Committee of Polish Emigration .

Since 1873 - corresponding member of the Academy of Knowledge in Krakow .

Creativity

Author of works on the November uprising of 1830 in Poland, a valuable collection of materials on the Great Emigration - “Vademecum polskie” (1839).

Opponent of the Polish democratic republican movements.
