Biography
The daughter of Prince of Poland (Krakow) Leszek Bely and Gremislava .
Born at the turning point of 1211-1212, she was at the center of politics. Hardly reaching the age of six, she was engaged to the Hungarian prince Koloman, the son of Andras II , King of Hungary , from the Arpad dynasty . Since the ancestors of her mother, including the Great Prince of Kiev, Mstislav Vladimirovich the Great , aspired to the Principality of Galicia , the interests of the father of Salome - Leszek Bely and the father of Koloman - Andras II , who also aspired to Galicia, coincided. The marriage union of their children was supposed to contribute to the Polish-Hungarian world and the solution of controversial issues of influence on Pure Russia .
In 1218 she was sent to Hungary. In 1219, after a joint successful campaign of the Poles and Hungarians, a young couple sat on the throne of Galich . However, there is no confirmed evidence that she was crowned.
In the spring of 1221, Novgorod prince Mstislav Mstislavich Udatny with the help of the Polovtsy and auxiliary detachments of the Russian princes from the Dnieper Dnieper captured Galich. The captive prince Koloman and his wife Salome were sent to the city of Torchesk, which belonged to Mstislav. The Hungarian king Andras II, in order to free his son from his captivity, was forced to start negotiations. After the conclusion of peace with the Hungarian king and the renunciation of rights to the throne of Galicia, they were released.
In April 1241, Koloman participated in the battle on the Chaillot River with the Mongols, received severe wounds and died in Zagreb in May-June 1241. After the death of her husband, Salome returned to Poland to the court of her younger brother, Prince of Cracow Boleslav V Shameful .
In 1245 she entered the Order of Clarissinoc in Sandomierz .
At her request, Boleslav V founded the Clarissinos Monastery in Zavihost , near Sandomierz, where she lived with the first Polish Clarissinkos.
A few years later, in 1260, the brother founded the second clarissinos monastery near Krakow, in the Skala area. Salome moved here and founded the monastery library and the town of Skala. In 1268, she became seriously ill and, before death, bequeathed all her property to the monastery.
Salome was considered a saint, as evidenced even by the fact that she retained her chastity in marriage.
Praise
In 1672 she was canonized by Pope Clement X.
In iconography, the attribute of blessed Salome is a star emanating from her mouth at the time of death.
Memory
The grave of Blessed Salome is located in the chapel, named in her honor, in the church of St. Francis of Assisi in Krakow .
