Club
Born December 23, 1983 in the English city of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1993, he was invited to the Newcastle United Academy [2] . Chopra successfully played for the youth team and in the 2000/01 season he scored 28 goals in the Junior Premier League. In December 2000, he signed with Newcastle the first professional contract. November 6, 2002 he made his debut at the club, coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup , in the match against Everton [3] .
In 2003, he spent half the season on loan from the Watford Club. Having performed well, in 2004 it was rented by Nottingham Forest , and played the second half of the season at Barnsley .
Returning from the lease, Michael Chopra could not break into the main team, occasionally leaving for replacements [4] . In June 2006, he transferred to Cardiff City , about £ 500,000 was paid for it. Having started the season well in the Championship , he scored two goals in the first match. Chopra became the main striker in the team, scored 22 goals in 42 matches.
July 17, 2007 for £ 5 million goes to Sunderland , signing a contract for 4 years [5] . In the debut match, scores a goal against Bohemians . In the 2007/08 season, he scored 6 goals in 33 matches. In the second half of the next season he returns to Cardiff on loan. In 2009, Cardiff bought his transfer for £ 3 million.
And in June 2011, an offer was received from Ipswich Town , to which Michael Chopra agreed. For £ 1 million, he officially signed a contract for 3 years. In his debut match against Bristol City , he scored two goals.
Team
Michael's father is a native of India [6] . In November 2010, the All-India Football Federation invited Chopra to accept their country's citizenship and become a player in the national team to strengthen before the Asian Cup . But citizenship could not be obtained. But the player hopes to get it in the future.
Personal life
In October 2007, married Heather Swan. February 15, 2008 a young couple had a son, Sebastian Rocco Thomas Chopra [7] .
