The game is a platformer with side side scrolling and two-dimensional graphics . As in most games of the genre, it presents several levels of locations . The character moves through them, destroying enemies and collecting useful items; sometimes you need to solve various problems and puzzles in order to go further. The main task in most levels is to go through them from beginning to end.

Enemies in the game are quite numerous and individual for each level. As a rule, they do not have a significant health reserve. Against enemies, Garfield uses special items (for example, skulls, fish skeletons, bombs and others), the stock of which can be replenished during the level. Pieces of pizza replenish health, the image of the character gives extra life, and teddy bears serve as “conservation points”.

Basically, the game received average ratings from critics. The magazines GamePro and Electronic Gaming Monthly rated the version for Sega Genesis at 2.5 out of 5 and 6 out of 10 points, and the information site All Game Guide - at 3 stars out of 5 ^[1] . Versions for Game Gear reviewers from GamePro magazine rated 4 out of 5 ^[2] .
