The song was first performed in a 1956 musical film by High Society performed by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly . [1] A version performed by Crosby and Kelly, accompanied by the orchestra of MGM Studios (orchestra leader and conductor Johnny Green , arranged by Conrad Salinger ), was also popular as a record on a record, reaching peak 5th in the charts at the peak.

Grace Kelly's vocal contribution to the song is relatively small - she sings only the last refrain in a duet with Crosby. Despite this, both of the performers were indicated; this record became for Kelly the only " gold " disc - and the 21st "gold" for Bing Crosby.

True Love is the name of Dexter Haven's yacht , on which he and Tracy Lord spend their honeymoon off the coast of the Gulf of Man (Haven and Lord are the main characters in the 1940 romantic comedy film The Philadelphia Story , which is based on the movie The High Society ). Bing Crosby later acquired a 55- foot yacht called Constellation , which he renamed True Love .
