Sam or Sahmi ( Armenian Սահմի ) is the third month of the ancient Armenian calendar . It included 30 days, starting on October 10 and ending on November 8 . According to Vanakan Vardapet, the name of the month comes from the word “determine, limit” (“սահմանել”). This is due to the fact that at this time of the year the preparations for winter were determined. According to Academician Stepan Malkhasyants “Sakhmi” means “month of seeds” (“սերմանց ամիս”) [1] .
