Biography
Gavriil Guskov was born on March 30, 1923 in the village of Shakhovo (now Uritsky district of the Oryol region ) in a working family. He graduated from seven classes of a school and flying club, worked as an accountant in the Maloyaroslavetsky mechanical station in the Kaluga region . In April 1941, Guskov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In the same year he graduated from the Kachin Military Aviation School of Pilots . Since the fall of 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He completed training on the Yak-1 . He participated in the Velikiye Luki offensive operation, accompanied groups of bombers [1] .
By April 1943, the Guards Junior Lieutenant Gavriil Guskov commanded the link of the 65th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 4th Guards Fighter Air Division of the 1st Guards Fighter Air Corps of the 3rd Air Army of the Kalinin Front . By that time, he had completed 105 sorties, took part in 35 air battles, in which he personally shot down 10 enemy aircraft [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 24, 1943, for the “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, junior lieutenant Gavriil Guskov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal “ Golden Star ” under the number 1011 [1] .
He participated in battles on the Bryansk Front , including in the Battle of Kursk . Repeatedly won air victories. On July 17, 1943, in an aerial battle with superior enemy forces, Guskov’s plane was shot down, and the brave pilot died. By the time of the death, it completed about 130 sorties, conducted about 50 air battles, and personally shot down 16 enemy aircraft [2] .
For many years he was considered missing. The crashed plane and the remains of G. G. Guskov in his cockpit were discovered only 20 years later at the village of Betovo in the Bolkhovsky district of the Oryol region. Then he was buried with military honors in the village of Naryshkino, Uritsky district, Oryol region. On the grave is a monument [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , World War 1 degree, Red Star and a number of medals. Forever enrolled in the lists of personnel of the military unit [1] .
In honor of Guskov, the street in Naryshkino and the school in which he studied were named [1] .
