Biography

Ivan Gusev was born on October 6, 1922 in a peasant family in the village of Stary Omutishchi (now Petushinsky District, Vladimir Region ). He graduated from ten classes of the school, then studied at the library college. He tried to enter the flying club twice, but did not pass through health. He worked as a carpenter. In August 1941, Gusev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to study at the Ulyanovsk School of Communications, later was transferred to the infantry school. He caught a severe cold during exercises and was expelled from school, was treated for a long time in the hospital and at home. In 1942, Gusev graduated from the courses of junior political instructors . Since August of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in battles on the Kalinin , South-West , Stepnoy , 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the liberation of the Ukrainian and Moldavian SSR, Bulgaria , Yugoslavia , Hungary . In battles, he was wounded and shell-shocked twice. By April 1944, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Gusev was a Komsomol in the 429th Infantry Regiment of the 52nd Infantry Division of the 57th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. Distinguished himself during the forcing of the Dniester [1] .

On the night of April 12-13, 1944, Gusev was one of the first to cross the Dniester in the vicinity of the village of Bychok, Grigoriopolsky District, Moldavian SSR, and took an active part in the seizure, retention and expansion of the bridgehead . During the assault, a height of 65.1 in the area of ​​the village of Gura-Bykulai, Gusev personally raised the company to attack. In battles, he personally destroyed dozens of enemy soldiers and officers [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1944, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism”, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Gusev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 3427 [1] .

After the war, Gusev continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1946, he graduated from courses at the Moscow Military-Political School, in 1957 - Aviation Department of the Military-Political Academy . He flew on combat aircraft as a navigator trainee. Since 1964, Gusev taught at the Central Officer Courses of the Radioengineering Air Defense Forces in Vladimir . In 1978, with the rank of colonel, he was sacked. He lived in Vladimir, worked as a methodologist at the Vladimir Regional Institute for Advanced Teachers, and later became a teacher at a vocational school. Engaged in public activities, since 1987 he headed the Vladimir Regional Council of Veterans.

He died at the 85th year of life on October 3, 2007, and was buried in the Ulybyshevsky cemetery of Vladimir [1] .

Honorary Citizen of Vladimir Region ( 1995 ), Honorary Citizen of Vladimir ( 2005 ), Honorary Citizen Petushkov , Honorary Citizen of Soledar Village. He was also awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, orders of the Red Star , "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" 3rd degree, a number of medals [1] .
