Offline Navigation
A distinctive feature of the program is offline navigation. Pre-loaded maps directly from the program interface allow you to not use the Internet connection for navigation. Downloadable maps are converted to native format from OSM vector data. They exist both for the whole world and for individual regions. Updating maps is not automatic; they must be checked manually. Offline maps are updated on average 2-3 times a month.
Installing the program
There are two versions of the program OsmAnd [3] and OsmAnd + [4] on Google Play . The first version of the program, unlike the "Plus" version, is absolutely free, but has several functional limitations.
- limited number of downloads (updates) of maps (7);
- there is no way to view the description of attractions from Wikipedia without using the Internet.
The Plus version has no restrictions, but they offer to buy it for 379 rubles for the Russian market. The money is supposed to be directed to the development of the project. You can download a fully functional version from the official tracker [5] , but in this case you will not have an automatic update of the program from Google Play. Automatic updates are available in the "store" of free software F-Droid
In addition to the Android version, there is also a version for BlackBerry devices [6] . The developers plan to release a program for Windows Phone 8 [7]
Quality Control
If an error is detected in the program, you can leave your question on Google Code in the Issues [8] section or on the Google Groups forum [9] , questions are accepted only in English. The program also provides a mechanism for reporting errors on the OSM card using the OpenStreetBugs service. These errors are further processed and corrected by the OpenStreetMap community. You can also add POIs to the card, and then upload them to OSM directly from the program interface. At the same time, you must enter your OSM credentials in the settings.
