About the album
Before recording the album, the group turned to famous producer Brian Eno with a proposal to collaborate and work on their new album, but he refused, and the participants of China Crisis had to look for another producer . Soon they were lucky to find the right person who could help in the work on their disc, such a person was Walter Becker from the Steely Dan group. Becker was very interested in working with musicians, because once he bought the debut album China Crisis in a store in Hawaii , after listening to him, Becker stayed impressed with the recording. Becker took part in the recording of the album as a producer and keyboard player [3] . In addition, the recording album was attended by renowned recording engineer Roger Nichols , who worked with Steely Dan, Toto , The Beach Boys , Placido Domingo , Ricky Lee Jones , Rodney Crowell and many other artists. [4] Flaunt the Imperfection was published in 1985 on shellac , audio cassette and CD [5] .
Critics positively rated the album. Mason Stewart of Allmusic wrote in a review that Flaunt the Imperfection China Crisis underwent great changes in his musical style, compared with the previous albums of the group: Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms, Possible Pop Songs Volume Two , the sound on this album is softer and more tender, the compositions and lyrics became expressive, and combining the synthesizer and other instruments was a good idea, this was not the case with the previous works of the collective, as the instrumental parts in those songs were unsuccessful [1] . The Spin columnist noted that the team successfully presented a fusion of such styles as: reggae , jazz , rock and pop [2] .
The compositions “Black Man Ray”, “King in a Catholic Style (Wake Up)”, “You Did Cut Me” and “The Highest High” were released as singles, but the group achieved its greatest success thanks to the successful appearance of “King in a Catholic Style ( Wake Up) "in the US market. The disc Flaunt the Imperfection became the most commercially successful in the work of China Crisis. In 1985 he received a gold certificate from the British Phonogram Manufacturers Association [6] .
The album reached ninth place in the UK charts UK Albums Chart , in the American Billboard 200 it rose to one hundred seventy first place [7] [8] .
