Biography
Dmitry Gusev was born on February 2 (15), 1915 in the village of Tyukovka (now the Borisoglebsky urban district of the Voronezh region ) into a peasant family. He graduated from five classes of the school, after which he worked as an electrician. In December 1942, Gusev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since 1943 - on the fronts of World War II. In 1944, Gusev graduated from junior lieutenant courses. By July 1944, Junior Lieutenant Dmitry Gusev commanded a machine-gun platoon of the 629th Infantry Regiment of the 134th Infantry Division of the 69th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .
On July 29, 1944, Gusev’s platoon was the first to cross the Vistula River in the area of the village of Lucim , southwest of the Polish city of Pulawy, and took an active part in the capture, retention and expansion of the bridgehead on its western shore. In just one day, the platoon repelled 15 enemy counterattacks, destroying 15 firing points and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, the second lieutenant Dmitry Gusev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1946, with the rank of senior lieutenant, Gusev was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Volgograd [1] , where he died in 1987 [2] [3] .
He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, as well as a number of medals [1] .
