Wiktor Czermak ; August 10, 1863, Yanov, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , Austria-Hungary (now Ivano-Frankovo , Yavorivsk region of Lviv region Ukraine ) - March 14, 1913, Krakow) - Polish historian , teacher , professor of the Jagiellonian University , Ph.D. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Knowledge in Krakow.

Biography

The son of the headman of the Drogobych district. After graduating from high school in Drohobych, he entered Lviv University , where he studied history under the guidance of Professor K. Liske . In 1887 he received his doctorate, defending a thesis on the subject of Lyubomirsky.

In 1889-1891 he took part in a scientific expedition equipped by the Cracow Academy in Rome to study materials on the history of Poland in the Vatican Archive, and also was engaged in scientific research in the archives of Berlin and Venice. From 1891 he worked at the Jagiellonian University. He headed the historical library (1891-1897).

After habilitation in 1895, he was an assistant professor at the Department of General History, from 1899 he was a professor, head of the Department of History of Austria (until 1904), then he headed the Department of History of Poland (1904-1910).

Since 1891 - associate of the Academy of Knowledge in Krakow. The following year he became a member of the Historical Commission of the Jagiellonian University, in 1902 - a corresponding member of the Academy of Knowledge.

Scientific activity

Viktor Chermak's research interests include general modern history, the political history of Poland in the 17th century, Polish-Swedish relations in the 17th-18th centuries, the course of the Russo-Polish war of 1660.

He carried out a critical analysis of the correspondence of King Jan III Sobieski and Maria Casimira de Lagrange d'Arquien , as well as the correspondence of Maria Leshchinsky . He dealt with the problems of the Orthodox in Lithuania of the 15th and 16th centuries.

He edited the history of Poland until the X century for its illustrated edition in 1905. He prepared a number of historical works for publication.
