Antoine-Joseph Perneti ( fr. Antoine-Joseph Pernety ), nicknamed the House of Perneti ( Dom Pernety ; February 23, 1716 , Roanne - October 16, 1796 , Avignon ) - a French Benedictine monk who refused the dignity; erudite, alchemist, illuminati and writer; the founder of the occult society, first in Berlin , then in Avignon, known as the " Avignon Society " [12] .

Biography
Initially, a Benedictine monk [12] . In 1757, at the library of the Parisian abbey, Saint-Germain-des-Prés discovered hermeticism .
In the years 1763-1764. took part in the Bougainville expedition to the Malvinas Islands as a confessor and naturalist ; subsequently published an essay describing the campaign (1769) [12] .
Then he became interested in occultism and abandoned his cassock. Searched for encrypted information in Egyptian and Greek myths; among the heroes and gods he tried to find hidden secret knowledge; established a "connection with Heaven" to gain new knowledge.
In Avignon he joined the Masonic lodge Sectateurs de la Vérité [13] . He fled from the Inquisition from Avignon to Berlin, to Frederick II , who appointed him the keeper of the royal library. He was engaged in the search for a philosopher's stone. Imbued with the ideas of the Swede Swedenborg , and founded, together with the Polish count T. Grabyanka (1740-1807), in Berlin a Masonic - theosophical sect. His proselytism did not please Frederick; excommunicated from the court, Perneti returned at the end of 1784 to the fatherland, accompanied by the Polish count. In Avignon, he accepted the invitation of the Marquis de Vaucroze to settle in one of his estates, namely in Bedarrid , which became the “ Temple du Mont Thabor ” for the “ Avignon Illuminati ”. In their fraternal society, there were more than one hundred members. [14]
Due to the revolution and the death of Perneti in 1796, society fell apart, but found its continuation in St. Petersburg from 1805 to 1807 as the “ Grabyanka Society ” [14] .
