Biography

Yuri Vasilievich Kazantsev [2] was born on December 7, 1935 in the city of Meleuz .

In 1959 he graduated from the Kryvyi Rih Mining Institute . After graduation, he worked as head of the geological survey party of the Krasnoyarsk Geological Administration (1959-1965), party leader, chief geologist of the Sterlitamak geological prospecting office of the Bashneft association (1965-1975), head of the laboratory (1975-2006), and chief research officer ( 2006) Institute of Geology, UC RAS.

Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus (1995), he was a member of the Department of the Earth Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus.

Scientific directions of work of Kazantsev: structural geology, tectonics, geology of oil and gas, seismotectonics.

He established the scaly-thrust structure of the Pre-Ural marginal trough; developed a new model for the formation of the structure of marginal troughs, which made it possible to identify the patterns of oil and gas distribution, to change the methodology for exploration, with which a number of oil fields were discovered (Bakrakhskoye, Arkhangelskoye, Berkutovskoye, etc.).

He also compiled new geological and tectonic maps of the Bashkir (Southern) Urals with the placement of ore and oil deposits in the frontal parts of the overthrusts; He established the synform style of tectonics of the Magnitogorsk megasynclinorium and in a new way explained the mechanism of the origin of salt tectonics of oil and gas regions. He was the first to propose a new model of the emergence and functioning of mud volcanoes - satellites of oil and gas fields.

Kazantsev is one of the authors of the program “Shyaryazh and the search for oil and gas in the Volga-Ural region and Western Siberia”, the long-term program “Thrust-2005”.

Editor-in-chief of the journal “Geology. Bulletin of the Earth Sciences Division of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus ”(1997).
