Biography
Yuri Gurov was born on May 28, 1924 in the city of Akmolinsk (now - Astana , Kazakhstan ) in a working family. He graduated from seven classes of school number 48 in the village of Malakhovka, Moscow Region. He lived in Moscow , in 1941 he graduated from a vocational school, after which he worked as a turner at the Moscow Post Office. In March 1942, Gurov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In the same year he graduated from the Moscow Military Infantry School named after the Supreme Council of the RSFSR . Since October 1942 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the Stalingrad , Don , South-West , 3rd Belorussian fronts. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad , the liberation of Kharkov , the forcing of the Southern Bug and the Dniester , the liberation of the Moldavian SSR , Romania , Bulgaria , Yugoslavia , Hungary . He was wounded twice in battles. By April 1944, junior lieutenant Yuriy Gurov commanded a company of the 429th Infantry Regiment of the 52nd Infantry Division of the 57th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Moldavian SSR [1] .
On the night of April 12-13, 1944, Gurov’s company was the first in the battalion to cross the Dniester in the vicinity of the village of Bychok, Grigoriopolsky District, and break through a powerful enemy defense on the west bank of the river. In the battle, Gurov was wounded, but remained in service, continuing to lead the actions of his company. On the bridgehead, the company repelled 22 German counterattacks, holding it until the approach of the main forces [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1944, for the “exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Junior Lieutenant Yuri Gurov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 3426 [1] .
On April 8, 1945, in a battle near the city of Mursa Sloboda in Yugoslavia, Gurov was seriously wounded, from whom he died on April 17 in a hospital in the Hungarian city of Gyor . He was buried on Mount Gellert in Budapest [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree and the Red Star [1] .
