The Apostolic Nuncio in the State of Israel is the diplomatic representative of the Holy See in Israel . This diplomatic post is held by the church-diplomatic representative of the Vatican as an ambassador . The Apostolic Nunciature in Israel was established on an ongoing basis in 1993 . Her residence is located in Tel Aviv .
Currently, the Apostolic Nuncio in Israel is Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli , appointed by Pope Francis on September 13, 2017 .

History
In 1948, the Vatican created the post of apostolic delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine , which had jurisdiction in Palestine , Transjordan and Cyprus . In 1973, Nunciature was established in the Republic of Cyprus .
Diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the State of Israel were established in 1994 , after the signing of the Basic Agreement between the Holy See and the State of Israel on December 30, 1993 . Archbishop Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo , who has been an apostolic delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine since 1990 , was appointed the first Apostolic Nuncio in Israel.
Until now, all the nuncios in Israel have also been simultaneously appointed by the Nuncio in Cyprus and the Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine (now responsible for relations with the local church in the Palestinian territories).

- Pietro Sambi - ( June 6, 1998 - December 17, 2005 ); as a nuncio in Israel, Sambi criticized the construction of the separation wall between Israel and the Palestinian territories, calling it a “ shame on humanity .” In 2003, he criticized anti-Semitism, sponsored by some representatives of the Palestinian authorities. Sambi played an important role in Italy, which ceased to fund anti-Semitic Palestinian school books. [one]
