Principality History
The exact time of the formation of the inheritance is unknown. The center of the inheritance of the princes of Spazhsky, N. I. Troitsky, was localized with a fortification in the village of Old Pavshino , which is located near the mouth of the Rysnya river, a tributary of the Upa [1] .
According to the genealogy, the Tarusian prince Semyon Yuryevich had five sons, one of whom, Semyon, named prince of Koninsky and Tarussky, is considered the ancestor of the Koninsky and Spazhsky princes. However, the names of the princes of Spazha are unknown, it is just mentioned that they “became mean and exhausted from the Tatar wars” [2] .
By genealogy, Semyon was supposed to live in the 1st half of the 14th century, but he had a son, Prince of Tarusa, Dmitry , who was mentioned in 1401/1402, which casts doubt on these pedigrees. According to the assumption of G. A. Vlasyev in the pedigree, Semyon and Dmitry are not located in their place [3] .
In the genealogy of the princes Volkonsky, filed in 1686, it is reported that Princes Boris and Mikhail Mstislavichi , sons of the Tarus prince Mstislav Ivanovich who died in the Battle of Kulikovo in 1380, “came to live on Pavshino and from that time began to call Spazhsky” [4] [ 5] . Boris and Mikhail are shown childless in the pedigree, the Principality of Spazha passed to the princes Volkonsky. In one of the synodics, Prince Vladimir Spazhsky is mentioned, but such a prince is absent in the paintings [6] .
According to the assumption of A.V. Shchekov, the princes of Spazhsky served Prince Fyodor Lvovich Vorotynsky in 1427. Probably the inheritance existed in the middle of the XV century, however, which of the Volkonsky princes owned it is not known [1] .
Later, the territory of the principality was included in the Russian state .
