Biography
Dmitry Gulyaev was born on December 30, 1910 in the village of Kon-Kolodez (now - the Khlevensky district of the Lipetsk region ) in a working family. He graduated from elementary school, after which he worked as an electrician in Voronezh . In 1932 - 1935 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. In 1941, he was re-drafted into the army. Since June 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By September 1943, Captain Dmitry Gulyaev commanded a battalion of the 22nd Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 6th Guards Tank Corps of the 3rd Guards Tank Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 23, 1943, the Gulyaev’s battalion crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Grigorovka in the Kanevsky district of the Cherkasy region of the Ukrainian SSR , captured and held the bridgehead on the west bank of the river until the remaining units of the brigade approached. Moving forward, the battalion freed Grigorovka and took control of the dominant height. Over the next three days, the battalion repulsed 19 enemy counterattacks. September 29, 1943 Gulyaev died in battle. He was buried in Grigorovka [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944 for captain Dmitry Gulyaev posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for the “exemplary performance of command missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard. He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Banner , Red Star , and a medal [1] .
