Centenario ( Spanish: Centenario ) is a type of Mexican gold investment coin .

Description

Coins were first minted in 1921 on the 100th anniversary of Mexico's independence from Spain . Centenario in Spanish means "centenary." Despite the name, the coin has a face value of 50 pesos . During the first issue, the value of the gold in the coin was approximately 50 pesos, at the same time, the coin was not intended for circulation at the indicated face value.

On the obverse of the coins is the first national emblem of Mexico and the inscription ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS (United States of Mexico). The reverse depicts the goddess Nika ( El Angel ) against the background of two famous volcanoes of Mexico ( Popocatepetl and Istaxiuatl ). To the left of the goddess Nika is the face value of 50 PESOS , to the right is the weight of pure gold in the coin 37.5 Gr PURO ORO . In the lower left part of the coin, the year of formation of Mexico is 1821, the year of minting of coins was placed in the right part.

At the first issue, coins were minted for 10 years from 1921 to 1931 . During the Second World War, the demand for gold in the world market increased, and a decision was made to resume coinage, which lasted from 1943 to 1947 . From 1949 to 1972, coins were minted with the date of 1947 . Also with a date of 1947 centenario produced in 1996 and from 2000 to 2009 .

The weight of the coin is 41.6666 grams, the weight of pure gold is 37.5 g (1.2056 troy ounces ), the diameter of the coin is 37 mm, and the diameter of the coins of 1943 is 39 mm [1] .
