Botanical descriptionPerennial herb with thick knotty rhizome . Forms upright, rounded stalks in cross section up to 80 cm (sometimes up to 1 m) tall. On it are a pair of toothed leaves and heads of flowers in their sinuses . The flowers are white, several mm long.
Distribution and habitatThe species is common to most of North America , where it grows mainly in humid places, such as soils near lakes .
