The Battle of Abukir is a land battle that took place in March 1801 in Egypt , near the city of Abukir, between the British army under the command of General Ebercrombie and the French army under the command of General Freean , which ended in victory for the British.
Background
The victory of the French over the Turks in the battle of July 25, 1799 for a while strengthened the stay of the French army in Egypt.
In the spring of 1801, when the French army was preparing to leave Egypt, Admiral Kate's English fleet arrived in Abukir from Rhodes and landed there up to 6 thousand people, who were soon joined by another 12 thousand British General Ebercrombie .
Battle
On March 8, 1801, British troops consisting of 5 thousand people overlaid the Gulf of Abukir and forced the French detachment of 2 thousand people that occupied it to surrender. In battle, the British lost 732 people (102 killed, 515 wounded and 15 missing), the French lost up to 300 people.
