Mutiny of 1909
In 1909, Alphonsatos-Tipaldos Konstantinos , in the rank of lieutenant commander, joined the "Military Council" of officers led by Colonel N. Zorbas, who forced the royal court and politicians to carry out reforms in the army and in the country. After the "Council" became almost a government body and the senior fleet officers began to adjoin it, Tipaldos' ambitions led him to a clash with the "Council". On October 16, at the head of 25 junior officers, Tipaldos captured 5 destroyers stationed at the naval base on the island of Salamis (Sfendoni, Navracusa, Aspis, Tiella, Velos). A group of battleships, loyal to the government, came out against the rebels. Tipaldos, aboard the Sfendoni destroyer, commanded by Ioannis Demestihas , leading a group of 3 destroyers, took on a battle with 3 battleships in the Salamis Strait. Artillery duel lasted 15 minutes. As a result of a direct hit, Sfendoni received a roll and, in order to avoid drowning, Tipaldos gave the command to ground the stranded man. "Nakrokusa", "Aspis" and "Hydra" received easier damage. Tiella was not injured. 5 sailors from rebel destroyers died. It became obvious that the insurgency had no prospects. Tipaldos and 7 of his comrades-in-arms left for the mountains, but were captured and tried [2] [3] .
Balkan Wars
Tiella, along with Spetses , Hydra and Loghi, was part of the 2nd Fleet Squadron, commanded by Captain P. Ginis. The destroyer took part in the liberation of the island of Thassos October 17-18, 1912, covering the landing of the army from the Pelops merchant ship [4] . On November 2, 1912, a week after the liberation of the Macedonian capital, the city of Thessaloniki , a Greek squadron headed by the battleship Georgios Averoff headed for Athos . The squadron was met with the bell-ringing chime of the monasteries of the Holy Mountain. The squadron responded with salute in 21 volleys. "Tiella" anchored in Daphne and landed troops in 40 sailors. The representative of the Sultan who was in Pyrgos surrendered the Holy Mountain to the Greek kingdom. At the same time, the “Georgios Averof” and the reconnaissance ships “Ierax” and “Pantyr” went to the “ Xerxes Channel”, where they landed troops in 200 sailors. On November 4, the Holy Community of Athos ( Ιερά Κοινότητα ) sent a telegram of thanks to the Greek Prime Minister Venizelos [5] . The next day, November 5, 1912, the Tiella raised the Greek flag on the island of Ikaria [6] . At the end of November 1912, Tiella, together with Pantir and Loghi, joined one of the three groups into which the destroyer flotilla was divided, escorting and patrolling the Dardanelles , in case the Turkish fleet decides to go out of him. December 3 (16), 1912 , "Tiella", as part of the Greek fleet driven by the flagship, the battleship "Georgios Averof", under the command of Admiral Kunturiotis, took part in the Greek victory over the Turkish fleet near Alley , being between Goekcead and Bozcaad islands, in the western sector battles In the subsequent Greek victory over the Turkish fleet at Lemnos , Tiella did not take part, because together with Loghi, Doxa and Velos I patrolled between the islands of Chios and Psara .
World War I
In October 1916 the ship was confiscated by the Entente , due to the initial neutrality of Greece and was transferred to the French. After the entry of Greece into the war in July 1917, the ship was returned to the Greek fleet in 1918. After the capitulation of the Ottoman Empire , the ship since 1919 supported the Greek army during its expedition to Asia Minor .
World War II
In the period 1926-1928, the destroyer was upgraded at the base of the fleet on the island of Salamis . The destroyer took part in the Greek-Italian war of 1940-1941, under the command of Captain Damiralis. After Nazi Germany came to the aid of the Italians, the destroyer was sunk by German aviation on April 21, 1941, at an anchorage in Vouliagmeni bay near the island of Fleves in the Saronic Gulf [7] .
