Service

Balkan Wars

By the beginning of the Balkan Wars, the Loghi, under the command of Captain A. Batsis, along with the battleships Spetses , Idra and the destroyer Tiela , was part of the 2nd fleet squadron, under the command of Captain P. Ginis. The destroyer took part in the liberation of the island of Thassos on October 17-18, 1912, covering the landing of the army from the Pelops merchant ship. On October 22, “Loghi” was sent to the island of Lesvos , to collect information about the Turkish forces on the island and determine the landing site (for a similar mission, “ Sfendoni ” was sent to the island of Chios ).

In November 1912, the Loghi, together with the destroyers Pantir and Tiella , became part of one of the three groups into which the destroyer flotilla was broken up, escorting convoys and patrolling the Dardanelles , in case the Turkish fleet decides to leave him.

On the morning of December 1, 1912, the Loghi, patrolling at the entrance to the Dardanelles, together with the destroyer Sfendoni , intercepted a Turkish destroyer that had left the straits. Greek destroyers opened fire, to which not a Turkish destroyer responded, but Turkish batteries from the European and Asia Minor coast. "Sfendoni" and "Loghi" came out from under the fire maneuvering [2] .

On December 3 (16), 1912 , the Loghi, as part of the Greek fleet, led by the flagship armored cruiser Averof , under the command of Admiral Kunturiiotis, took part in the Greek victory over the Turkish fleet at Elli , located between the islands of Imvros and Tenedos , in the western sector the battle.

In the subsequent Greek victory over the Turkish fleet at Lemnos, the “Loghi” did not take part, since together with the destroyers “ Tiella ”, “ Dox ” and “ Velos ” patrolled between the islands of Chios and Psar .

In February 1913, after the Greek command came to the conclusion that the Turks would not dare to leave the straits, the Loghi was transferred to the western Ionian Squadron. The Ionian squadron also included the battleship Psara , and the destroyers Aetos and Aspis . The main task was to ensure the safety of the sea traffic of the Epirus Army, the blockade of the Albanian coast and the protection of the Serbian army, transported by Greek ships from Thessaloniki to the city of Shkodra fortress.

During the “ Battle of Bisani ”, the “Ionian Squadron” conducted a distracting operation (false landing in Agia Saranta ), thus depriving the Turkish garrison in Ioannina of the possibility of receiving reinforcements. “ Psara ”, “Mikali”, “ Aetos ” and “Longhi” and the steamers “Eurotas”, “Alfios”, “Pinios”, “Aheloos” accompanied dozens of small craft from Preveza to Agia Saranta, on which there was only one infantry battalion , the landing of which created the picture of a larger-scale operation. After the Greek victory at Bisani and the fall of the city of Ioannina, the Loghi returned to the Aegean .

During the Second Balkan War, the Logkhi, together with other ships of the fleet, was used to provide fire support to the army from the sea in military operations against the Bulgarian army. In June 1913, the Logkhi, together with 2 destroyers, landed amphibious assault under the command of Captain D. Zalokostas, who occupied Porto Lagos and its environs on the Thracian coast [2] .

World War I

In October 1916, the ship was confiscated by the Entente , due to the initial neutrality of Greece and was transferred to the French. After Greece officially entered the war in July 1917, the ship was returned to the Greek fleet in 1918.

Asia Minor Campaign

After the surrender of the Ottoman Empire and during inter-allied post-war friction, on April 23 ( May 6 ), 1919, the allies hastily granted Greece a mandate to occupy Smyrna in order to get ahead of Italy’s claims to this region [3] .

On April 27 ( May 10 ), 1919, the 1st Greek Division in the eastern Macedonian city of Kavala was loaded onto the Patrice, Themistocles, and 12 smaller vessels. “Loghi”, together with the Greek “ Aigley ”, and “ Leon ”, “ Sfendoni ”, “Alkion” and 4 English destroyers accompanied the convoy, in case of enemy actions of the Italian fleet [4] .

In 1922, the destroyer participated in the evacuation of the army and Greek refugees from Asia Minor.

Subsequent years

The destroyer was in the fleet until 1925 . Due to the high cost, its repair and modernization, on the model of the same type of "Tiella" and "Sfendoni", were considered inappropriate. The destroyer was withdrawn from the fleet in 1926 .
