Barsov, Nikolai Ivanovich

The son of a priest, was born on April 21 ( May 3 ), 1839 in the Luga district of St. Petersburg province . Initial education in the Alexander Nevsky religious school , in 1859 he entered the St. Petersburg Theological Academy , after which he took the place of a teacher of literature at the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary . He received a master's degree in theology, the dissertation: "The brothers Andrei and Semen Denisov: Their life and significance in the history of schism". In 1869, he was elected to the department of pastoral theology and homiletics by the Council of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and held the position of a regular professor who corrects the post until 1889 . He died in 1903 .

In addition, Barsov was the author of numerous articles of church-historical and journalistic content in magazines and newspapers. Some of these articles are collected in his book "Historical, critical and polemical experiments" (St. Petersburg, 1879). He also participated in the "Description of documents and cases stored in the archives of the Holy Synod." He was one of the authors of the Brockhaus Encyclopedic Dictionary and Efron , writing a number of encyclopedic articles on church topics for him.
