On August 13, 2012, a call was received to the call center of the Kamensk regional police department about the discovery of the bodies of two people on the territory of cordon No. 4 30 km from the village. Tausamal, in the gorge "Cordon Aksay".

The investigative-operational group, which arrived at the scene, found the body of a 53-year-old woman (Karpenko I. Yu.) In the house of the huntsman of the Ile-Alatau National Park, and in the courtyard of the house - a 60-year-old man (V. Sinyakov).

Police officers also found the bodies of 4 people (Zakharopulo P.E., Karpyzina A.D., Guzev A.A., Musakhranov D.V.). All six of the dead had multiple stab wounds.

When examining the house of the huntsman Zakharopulo P.E. the investigative-operational group found that the order in it was not broken. Things were in their places. “The safe contained 12 thousand 600 US dollars and 500 thousand tenge, a 12-gauge smoothbore gun. In addition, a 16-gauge gun, rifle cartridges, 2 chains of yellow metal, documents were found in the house, ”the Interior Ministry said. In front of the barrier, a broken Nissan Patrol car belonging to the huntsman’s son (Igor Zakharopulo) was found, and a VAZ-2121 car 100 meters above the house. Inside the car there are traces of spots of dark brown in color, similar to blood.

Then, a message was received from employees of the national park that, 25 km from the scene, the house of the forester’s cordon No. 3, Aleksey Shkilev, who was on sick leave outside the national park, was on fire. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers found two more people in the house who had burnt bodies, and the next day, when analyzing the rubble, three more.

For almost two weeks, the police either admitted or denied the discovery of the 12th victim; as a result, on August 27, 2012, the police reported the discovery of the charred remains of the 12th victim of the murder.

According to the results of the first days of the investigation, the police put on the wanted list of the son of Panayot Zakharopulo - Igor Zakharopulo. And on September 3, 2012, she arrested Aleksey Shkilev, first accusing him of hooliganism, then charging him with illegal possession of weapons. In the burnt house of Alexei Shkilev, two burnt guns were discovered that could be suitable for firing live ammunition.

The territory in which the massacre took place was guarded by two foresters - Panayot Zakharopulo and Alexey Shkilev. The last house was set on fire along with the bodies of the victims. During the investigation, the police found some weapons on the territory of the burnt upper cordon, which was guarded by Shkilev. The huntsmen of Alexey Shkilev were detained on August 18, 2012 for illegal possession of weapons ^[6] . Shkilev was detained until November 1, 2012 and was released in accordance with article 65 of the Criminal Code (exemption from criminal liability in connection with active repentance) ^[7] .

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of the work carried out to date, the investigation has good reason to argue that these crimes were committed by members of a group of adherents of religious extremism whose identities are established.

According to the investigation in the Almaty region in the summer of 2012, a criminal group of members of religious extremism adherents formed. The criminals, being in an illegal situation, changed their place of residence using rented and other premises, including:

• a house in the village of Tausamaly in the Almaty region, in which on July 11, 2012, an explosion occurred ^[10] ,
• a fortified dugout in Ile-Alatau National Park, which allegedly contained women and children of criminals ^[11]
• a house in the village of Baganashil (summer cottage partnership Tan), where on August 17, 2012, during a special operation, most of the group was destroyed ^[12] . ^[13]

On July 11, 2012, in the Tausamaly village of the Karasai district of the Almaty region, private house No. 98 on Seifullina Street took off into the air ^[14] .

As a result, nine people died - 4 women and 5 children. Among them are the mother and daughter of one of the members of the terrorist group, as well as the sister and niece of the other.

In the ruins of the house and outbuildings, investigators found weapons, incendiary mixture, 4 walkie-talkies and a police uniform. It is assumed that the cause of the explosion was an error during the assembly of an improvised explosive device.

From July 20 to August 12, 2012, members of the criminal group detained 6 women and their children in a heavily fortified dugout constructed in a mountainous and wooded area on the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Nature Park. It follows from the testimonies of the established wives of the members of the criminal group that their husbands practiced prolonged and violent detention of their children without communication with their mothers. In addition, they forbade their wives to go out and contact their relatives on their own, and kept them locked up in various rented apartments in Almaty and its suburbs without documents and money. According to the testimonies of these women, on August 4, 2012, one of the criminals' wives gave birth to a child in this dugout ^[15] .

Estimated sequence of events in Ile-Alatau National Park

On August 12-13, 2012, the son of the huntsman of the national park Igor Zakharopulo, together with Andrei Guzev, went to patrol the mountain gorge. Suspecting that poachers were hiding in the mountains, they left the UAZ and set off on foot. The men came to the place where the bandit dugouts were. It is assumed that between the bandits and huntsman Igor Zakharopulo, a brawl began, which grew into a fight. Andrey Guzev ran to the cordon of Panayot Zakharopulo to call for help. At this time, the criminals killed Igor Zakharopulo, and then hid his body. Panayot Zakharopulo and Andrey Guzev, having seized the gun, went to the scene by car. "Niva" on a mountain road came across an ambush. Men were killed with knife stabs, not even allowing them to get out of the car. Then the bandits reached the camp where Antonina Karpyzina was. Having killed her, they left the bodies of Panayot Zakharopulo and Andrei Guzev in the same place. After that, the criminals reached cordon No. 4, where they killed Irina Karpenko and the worker Vitaly Sinyakov. Moreover, the killers did not take anything from the house. The attackers decided to hide on Nissan Patrol by Igor Zakharopulo, but could not pass through the blocked barrier. It was this car, broken and covered in blood, that was found at the post the next day.

The investigation suggests that the killers decided to go through another road that runs through cordon No. 3 of the huntsman Alexei Shkilev. The inhabitants of the cordon Alexei Shkilev saw the criminals, so the criminals killed 6 people and set fire to the house. Presumably the bandits left on a Subaru and an SUV. It was them that were recorded by the satellite camera ^[16] .
