History
The order for the construction of a submarine was given on August 15, 1940 . The boat was laid on June 14, 1941 at the shipyard Danziger Werft in Danzig under construction number 115, launched on March 25, 1942 . The boat entered service on July 1, 1942, under the command of Lieutenant Walter Hüth.

Service history
The boat made 3 combat campaigns. Sank one ship with a displacement of 5979 bt , damaged one ship with a displacement of 7134 bt . Sunk May 25, 1943 in the western Mediterranean , in the area with coordinates of , depth charges from the British corvette HMS Vetch . 47 dead (the whole crew).

- On February 4, 1943, in the North Atlantic, the boat was attacked by a Curtis plane. The damage caused U-414 to return to the base.
