Benjamin Abbot or, in pre-revolutionary writing, Abbot ( Eng. Benjamin Abbot ; September 17, 1762 , Andover - October 25, 1849 , ) is an American teacher. For 50 years he was the head of the Phillips Academy in Exeter ( New Hampshire ).

He earned the fame of the first teacher in New England . He had extensive knowledge of classical languages, and also taught mathematics. Among his students were many future politicians: Daniel Webster , Edward Everett (Edward Everett), George Bancroft (George Bancroft) and others.
In 1838 he left the academy and spent the last years of his life in solitude.
