Prince Sisovat Moniret ( Khmer. ស៊ីសុវត្ថិ មុ ន្នី រ៉េ ត ; November 25, 1909 - September 1975 ) - Cambodian statesman, son of King Sisovat Monivong , Prime Minister of Cambodia (1945-1946).

Biography

He graduated from the Special Military School of Saint-Cyr in France.

  • 1934-1937 - Secretary General of King Sisowath Monivong , in 1934 initiated the creation of the first scout movement Angkar Khemarak Kayarith, which was joined by more than 1000 members from different regions of the country,
  • 1937-1939 - Delegate for Social Affairs, Health and Sports.

In 1939, Mr .. joined the Foreign Legion and the rank of lieutenant participated in the battles of World War II in France and North Africa. In the same year he was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor. After the death of his father in 1941, he was the main contender for the throne, but the colonial authorities preferred the more loyal nephew of Moniret Norodom Sihanouk . Nevertheless, during the first period of the reign of Norodom Sihanouk (1953–1955), he remained the heir to the throne.

In 1944-1945 - again takes the post of Secretary General of the king, but this time Norodom Sihanouk.

In 1945-1946 - Prime Minister of Cambodia. At the same time he headed the ministries of internal affairs and defense. With the consent of the French authorities, he began the formation of the Cambodian army from among the representatives of the Khmer Military Convention. In 1946, he achieved the opening of an officer school. He also began negotiations on the "future of Cambodia", ensuring that the king possessed some autonomy in managing internal affairs, while France retained the supreme authority on foreign affairs, defense and control. In December 1946, after winning the election, the Democratic Party ceded the post of Prime Minister to Prince Sisovat Utewong .

  • 1947-1948 - Vice President of the Regency Council,
  • 1950 - the manager of the staff of the royal court,
  • 1950-1952 - Inspector General of the Royal Cambodian Army,
  • 1954-1955 - Ambassador in France,
  • 1955-1960 - military adviser to the king of Cambodia,
  • 1956 - appointed Minister of "Public Health", a special anti-corruption body under the king,
  • 1960 after the death of Norodom Suramarita - Chairman of the Regency Council. He was forced to abandon all monarchical ambitions, although Sihanouk doubted the sincerity of this resignation. At the same time, although the relationship between them was never warm, the nephew was convinced of his uncle's loyalty and without hesitation turned to him in case of crisis, without giving him any power,
  • 1960-1963 - Inspector General of the Royal Cambodian Army,
  • 1963-1970 - Military Advisor to Norodom Sihanouk.

From March to May 1973 he was placed under arrest by the Lon Nol regime.

Following the capture of Phnom Penh by the Khmer Rouge, the French Embassy was denied asylum. In September 1975, he was executed.
