Geography

It is part of the Tri-Sites urban agglomeration. Located on the right bank of the Columbia River , south of the place where the Yakima River flows into it, opposite the city of Pasco . The territory of the city is 73.45 km²; of these, the land area is 69.75 km² and the open water area is 3.70 km².

The climate is dry. Winters are relatively cold; summer is hot and dry. The city receives less than 200 mm of rain per year. The wettest months are November, December and January; the driest are July and August.

Population

According to the 2010 census, the city’s population is 73,917 people [1] ; as of April 1, 2012, it is estimated that it has 75 160 people [2] .

According to 2010, the racial composition of the city was represented by white Americans (78.5%); Asians (2.4%); African Americans (1.7%); Native Americans (0.8%); Pacific Islands population (0.2%); representatives of other races - 12.1% and representatives of two or more races - 4.3%. The proportion of Latinos of any race is 24.2%.

The average age of the population is 32.6 years. The proportion of persons under 18 years old is 28.2%; the proportion of people over 65 years old is 10.9%. 49.9% of the city’s population are men and 50.1% are women.
