Biography

Born in 1959 in the family of a soldier. After graduating from the Kiev Higher All-Arms Command School named after MV Frunze in 1980, he served as platoon and company commander in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany , chief of staff and battalion commander in the Belarusian Military District .

After graduating from the Military Academy named after MV Frunze in 1991, he consistently held the posts of deputy chief of the operational division of the division headquarters, chief of staff — deputy regiment commander, regiment and brigade commander, chief of division headquarters in the Far Eastern Military District .

In 2001, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and was appointed division commander in the Siberian Military District .

From 2003 to 2005, he served as Chief of Staff of the 29th Combined Arms Army ( Ulan-Ude ) in the Siberian Military District .

Since May 2005, he commanded the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army ( Voronezh ), Moscow Military District .

From 2008 to 2010, he served as Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander of the Leningrad Military District [2] .

In January 2010, he was appointed to the post of Chief of the Main Operational Directorate - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces [3] .

In July 2011, he wrote a resignation report [4] . According to observers, he was associated with the disagreement of A. Tretyak with the reforms in the army , carried out by Chief of the General Staff Nikolai Makarov [5] . In October 2011, President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed Alexander V. Tretyak from the post of Chief of the Main Operational Directorate - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and dismissed him from military service [6] .

On May 11, 2012, Andrei Tretyak was appointed head of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces , replacing Army General Vladimir Yakovlev in this post. The Tretyak was not reinstated in military service, and headed the academy in the status of a state civil servant [7] . February 4, 2013 dismissed from the post of head of the Academy [8] .
