Dan Yaping

Dan Yapin ( Chinese ex. 邓亚萍 , pinyin : Dèng Yàpíng , born February 5, 1973) - Chinese athlete, table tennis player, 4-time Olympic champion and 18-time winner of world championships and world cups. Recognized as the greatest player in table tennis history and athlete of the 20th century in China [3] .

Sports career

Dan Yaping was born in 1973 in Zhengzhou , Henan Province. From the age of five she began to practice table tennis. At the age of 13, in 1986, she won the Chinese Championship for the first time. In 1989 she won her first world championship, in 1990 - the first world cup, in 1992 and 1996 she became a double champion of the Olympic games each time, in 1994 she earned 3 gold and 1 silver medals of the Asian championship.

From 1990 to 1997, for 8 years, she held the position number 1 in the world ITTF rating.

In 1997, she completed her sports career.

Game Style

Dan Yaping is right-hander, she used a European snap, played attacking style.

After leaving sport

Subsequently, Dan Yaping was a member of the ethics committee of the International Olympic Committee , the preparatory committee for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and was elected a member of the CPPCC . In 2007 she married Lin Zhigang - also a well-known table tennis player, a World Cup winner.

In 2008, Dan Yaping received a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge [4] .
