Content
Geography and climate
Located on the banks of the Sutledge River, at an altitude of 259 m above sea level [3] . Along the opposite bank of the river stretches the Sivalik mountain range.
The climate of the city, with the exception of the rainy season, can be described as rather arid. The annual rainfall is about 780 mm (almost 78% of this value falls between June and August). The hottest months are May and June; the coldest are December and January.
Transport
Rupar is connected by road and rail to all the major cities of Punjab and neighboring states. National highway No. 21 passes through the city.
Population
The population according to the 2001 census is 48 165 people (25 563 men and 22 602 women) [4] . The literacy rate is about 75%, which is significantly higher than the national average of 59.5%.
