In each of the films, significant figures of the White movement , their participation in the events of the Russian revolution are shown. The director shows the life of famous emigrants abroad and tries to find out how their fate was and what they have achieved. The Russian historian and publicist, candidate of historical sciences Vladimir Markovchin took an active part in creating the cycle.

The first part of the documentary series “Russian choice” tells about the fate of the military, who were forced to leave their homeland after the end of the fratricidal Civil War. The lives of generals Wrangel and Denikin , Admiral Kolchak , the tragedy of the Russian squadron, the fate of the cadet boys and the Cossacks are shown in the series. Through the prism of the tragedy of the writer Ivan Shmelev, the fate of those who, believing the promises of Soviet power, remained in their homeland, is shown.
The second part of the series “Russian without Russia” tells how the life of Russian exiles in a foreign land was built and what helped them to survive. What could be the Russian way of life, not disfigured by revolutionary transformations? What can be the Russian language, preserved in its noble quality and sound, and most importantly - what can be faith in Russia?
