In 1989, after completing graduate school, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences on the topic "Electronic Properties of Quasicrystals" [1] . In 1989-1998 he worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics. L. D. Landau RAS [2] . In 1999-2001, he worked as a researcher at Microsoft Research . Since 2002 - Professor at the California Institute of Technology [3] .
Scientific Achievements
While working at the Institute of Theoretical Physics. L.D. Landau RAS proposed and developed a number of ideas for quantum computing : an and the concept of a in 1997. For these studies, he received a McArthur Scholarship (2008) [4] . He also proposed the QMA complexity class and showed that some local Hamiltonian problems are QMA-complete. In 2012, he received the Prize in fundamental physics .
