Biography
Born on October 1, 1859 in the village of Verbyazh . He studied at the gymnasiums of Uzhgorod , Mukachev , Presov and Levoch . In 1881 he graduated from the theological seminary in Uzhgorod, from 1885 - a priest, in 1887-1898 he served in the village. Ardanovo , and then a teacher of the Ruthenian language and literature in Uzhgorod gymnasium. He advocated the preservation of the Ruthenian language in secondary schools of the Transcarpathian region.
In 1898 he moved to Sevlush , where he became archdeacon, since 1917 - archdeacon Ugocha .
One of the first to declare the identity of the Rusyns from the Ukrainians. In the interwar years, Sabov was one of the most influential figures in the Russian movement of Transcarpathia.
After the entry of Subcarpathian Rus into Czechoslovakia, he opposed the pro-Ukrainian actions of emigrants from Ukraine in schools and societies of Transcarpathia. He defended the position of the Rusyn literary language, based on the so-called. paganism , Russian and Transcarpathian dialects.
The Russian Cultural and Educational Society named after A. V. Dukhnovich , which was headed by E. Sabov from 1923 to 1934, organized on October 9, 1932, in the city of Mukachevo, the “Popular Carpathian Congress”, which was held under the slogans: “Long live the Russian language! Down with the Ukrainians! ”
He carried out significant socio-cultural work. His articles were published in many newspapers and magazines of the region.
On June 1, 1930 in Uzhgorod , as a result of a terrorist act committed by a member of the Ukrainian military organization , Sabov was seriously wounded.
November 3, 1934 Evmeniy Sabov died in the city of Sevlyush (now - Vinogradov ). In 1935, the "Scientific Collection in memory of E. Sabov" was published in Uzhgorod.
Literary and pedagogical activity
E. Sabov began his literary activity with the publication in 1890 of the manual “Russian Grammar and Reading the Literary Language of Finno-Russian”. He was followed in 1891 by a prayer book for children, the Guardian Angel. At the same time, his “Reader” was published, and in 1894, “Church Slavonic Grammar” ( Egyházi szláv nyelvtan ) in Hungarian . She, as emphasized by the biographer Sabov F.F. The grammar and spelling of Sabov was adopted by the Hungarian government for schools and became the approved Russian language textbook in all schools of Subcarpathian Russia .
Cultural Activities
E. Sabov participated in the creation of the educational and publishing society "Unio", was a co-founder of the newspaper "Science", and after the First World War - " Russian Cultural and Educational Society named. A. Dukhnovich . " He was elected "life" chairman of this society.
Edited the magazine "Carpathian Svѣt" and others.
