Initially, the gunboat received the name of one of the strongholds of the fleet of the Greek revolution of the island of Spetses , just as from the same considerations the second ship received the name of the island of Hydra . With the order of these 2 gunboats, ordered a year earlier in France and also intended for the Gulf of Amvrakikos, but much smaller, Alpha gunboats changed their names. In 1889, after the introduction of the eponymous battleship “Spets” and the battleship “Idra” into the fleet, the gunboat was in turn renamed “Aktion”, which, like the new name of the gunboat “Idra” renamed “Amvrakia” openly spoke about their purpose ( Aktium and Ambrakia - toponyms of the Gulf of Amvrakikos).
"Aktion" took part in the Greek-Turkish war of 1897 , under the command of Captain E. Tombazis, as part of the Western Ionian Flotilla. As part of the same flotilla and under the command of Captain E. Lampadarios, the gunboat took part in the Balkan wars of 1912-1913.
During the First World War, the gunboat was used as a mine layer in the waters around Piraeus . After the war, the gunboat was withdrawn from the fleet in 1919 [2] .
