At the end of the XV century. Medems moved from Hesse to the Baltic region. By the definition of the Governing Senate, the genus von Medem was recognized as baronial. The family of Medem was included in the noble matriculum of the Courland and Livonia provinces and in the V part of the genealogical books of the Poltava, Pskov, Ryazan [1] and Saratov provinces.
By the letter of the Roman emperor Joseph II of November 5, 1779, the Polish and Saxon chamberlain, Oshmyany warden, Johann Friedrich von Medem, with his descendants descending, was elevated to the earl of the Holy Roman Empire.
The titular adviser Fedor Ivanovich de Medem 15.05.1813 was included in Part III of the DRC of the Ryazan Province. 1.05.1845 Baron Adalbert Petrovich Medem was introduced in his service in the 2nd part of the DRC of the Ryazan Province. 2.03.1849 on the antiquity of the genus moved to VI h. DRC Ryazan Province. without the name Baron.
