Manchin Limerick

Manchin ( VII century or earlier, died pre. In 652 ) - Holy Bishop of Limerick . Memorial Day - January 2 .

St. Manchin (Munchin, Maincin, Manchen), or Luimnich (Luimnich) is revered as the patron saint of Limerick, Ireland , since this city grew up in the vicinity of the monastery founded by the saint on the island Innis Ibhton, on the Shannon River, and got its name Luimnich in his honor. In the three early martyrology, he is called the "Wise" and "Nun" (little monk). Little is known about his life; it is believed that he belonged to the Dal Cais family, who lived near the western coast of County Clare , in the so-called Ennistimon region. The reigning prince gave him the island of Limerick, perhaps in exchange for recognizing superiority over his people. It is believed that he founded a school in the town of Mungret (Mungret). Tradition calls him the first bishop of Limerick, but experts doubt whether he was a bishop at all.
