Alexander Nikolaevich Kokotov (born January 15, 1961, Ufimka Station, Achitsky District , Sverdlovsk Region ) is a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation (since 2010), head of the Department of Constitutional Law of the Ural State Law Academy (in 1998-2010), doctor of law sciences, professor. Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation .

Biography
Born on January 15, 1961 at the Ufimka station in the Achit district of the Sverdlovsk region
In 1979-1981, he served in the Armed Forces of the USSR.
After graduating from the Sverdlovsk Law Institute with a distinction in forensic science in 1985, he worked until 1987 as secretary of the Komsomol SJI committee.
In 1986-1988 he studied at the post-graduate school of the SJI and in 1988 under the guidance of Professor M.I. Kukushkina defended his thesis on "Local public organizations as subjects of Soviet state law."
Since 1988, he worked at the Department of Soviet State Law and Soviet Construction at SJI, first as a teacher, senior lecturer, then assistant professor and professor.
In 1995, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “The Russian nation and Russian statehood (constitutional and legal aspect of relations),” and in 1998 he was awarded the title of professor.
In the period from 1998 to 2010 he was the head of the department of constitutional law of the Ural State Law Academy. In the period from 2006 to 2009 he was the chief editor of the Russian Law Journal. On March 3, 2010, he was appointed judge of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.
