Viktor Pavlovich Yankovsky was born on March 11, 1907 in St. Petersburg .

Military Service

Pre-war time

In September 1923, Yankovsky was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and was sent to study at the Tambov Infantry School , and in September 1924 - at the Ryazan Infantry School , after which he served in the 44th Rifle Regiment ( Ukrainian Military District ) since September 1925. in the positions of commander of a small platoon, temporarily acting head of the chemical service of the regiment, platoon commander and temporarily acting head of the regimental school, company commander and assistant commander of the battalion.

From August to December 1931, Yankovsky served as commandant of the city of Nikolaev at the headquarters of the 15th Infantry Division .

In January 1932 he was transferred to the service at the headquarters of the 12th OKDVA rifle division , where he served as assistant chief of the 1st division and temporarily served as chief of the 2nd division headquarters of the division.

Since September 1936, Viktor Pavlovich Yankovsky was a student of the MV Frunze Military Academy , however, after completing two courses of the Academy, in July 1938 he was transferred to the Red Army reserve under Article 43, paragraph "a".

In February 1939, Yankovsky was again drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and was appointed to the post of teacher of tactics of the Ryazan Infantry School , and in December - to the post of teacher of tactics of the Ivanovo KUNS reserve.

In 1940 he graduated from the evening faculty of the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze and in December 1940 was appointed to the post of lecturer in the department of general tactics of the same academy.

World War II

In August 1941, he was appointed chief of staff of the 395th Infantry Division , which was first part of the Kharkov Military District , and then transferred to the reserve of the Supreme Command .

Since January 1942, the division as part of the 18th Army took part in the course of the Donbass and Rostov operations , as well as in the battle for the Caucasus .

In March 1943, Yankovsky was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 23rd Rifle Corps , which took part in the Belgorod-Kharkov offensive operation and the battle of the Dnieper .

In October 1943, Viktor Pavlovich Yankovsky was appointed to the post of commander of the 30th Infantry Division ( 1st Guards Army , 1st Ukrainian Front ). The division under the command of Yankovsky distinguished himself in the course of the Kiev offensive and defensive operations , as well as in the Proskurovsky-Chernivtsi , Zhytomyr-Berdychiv operations and during the liberation of Izyaslav , Starokonstantinov , Monastyriski and Zhytomyr , for which she was awarded the Order of the Red Banner , and Viktor Pavlovich Yankutzov - the order 2 degrees.

Since July 1944, Yankovsky served as commander of the 74th Rifle Corps , who participated in the Lviv-Sandomir and East Carpathian operations . In connection with the cure and return of the former corps commander from the hospital in October 1944, Jankowski was again appointed to the post of commander of the 30th Infantry Division, which took part in the Prague offensive operation and the liberation of the city of Olomouc . For exemplary performance of the tasks of the command, Yankovsky was awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 2nd degree.

Post-War Career

In July 1945, Yankovsky was then appointed commander of the 263rd Infantry Sivash Division ( Northern Group of Forces ).

From March 1946 he studied at the Higher Military Academy named after K. E. Voroshilov , after which from May 1948 he served as a senior lecturer at this Academy.

In March 1950, Jankowski was seconded to the Ministry of National Defense of the Polish Republic , where he served as adviser to the Minister of National Defense. In January 1952 he was appointed to the post of head of the Main Directorate of Combat Training of the Soviet Army , and in April 1953 - to the post of head of the tactics department of the L. M. Kaganovich Military Transport Academy .

In March 1956, Viktor Pavlovich Yankovsky went into the reserve. He died on March 10, 1966 in Leningrad .
