Content
Geography
The Zapovednoye settlement is located on the left bank of the Matrosovka River, where the Nemoninsky Channel is separated from the river by the left sleeve (there is no passage for ships because of a 100-meter wide dam). Distance from the district center, the city of Slavsk - 17 km in a straight line to the west.
History
The settlement belongs to the historical area of ancient Prussia named Scalovius .
The first mention of the locality called Gross Krishtsanen dates back to 1570 .
In 1888, Gross Krishtsanen was one of the most visited shopping centers in the district. It had its own post office, court room, steam sawmill. In 1891, a church was consecrated in Gross Krishtsanene.
In 1923, Gross Krishtsanen was renamed to Zekenburg. In 1944, the population of Zekenburg was 1,400.
On January 21, 1945, Zekenburg was captured by the warriors of the 70th Infantry Division of the Verkhnodniprovsk Order of Suvorov. In 1946, it was renamed Zapovednoye [2] .
