Biography
Leonid Kokin was born on September 12, 1920 in Orenburg .
In 1939 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1941, Kokin graduated from the Chkalov Aviation School . He served in the Far East , was an ordinary pilot, then grew to the post of commander of an air squadron [1] . He participated in the Soviet-Japanese war, made 5 sorties in Manchuria , for which he presented himself to the Order of the Red Banner , but higher authorities changed this award to the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree [2] .
After the war he continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1955, Kokin graduated from the Air Force Academy in Monino . He commanded an air regiment, then became deputy commander of an air division. When the Strategic Missile Forces were created, Kokin became deputy commander of the missile division, then from June 1960 - commander of the 29th Guards of the Vitebsk Order of Lenin of the Red Banner Division . In 1963, Kokin graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff [1] .
In 1963-1970 , Kokin commanded the missile division. While in this position, he made a great contribution to the formation of strategic missile forces, supported the high combat readiness of the unit entrusted to him, the development of new equipment and weapons by personnel, and the improvement of his combat qualities. From 1970 to the end of his life, Major General Leonid Kokin was deputy commander of the 50th Missile Army for combat training. He died on August 11, 1973 [1] , was buried in the Alley of Honor of the New Cemetery of Smolensk .
He was awarded the orders of Lenin , Red Star , World War 1 degree, as well as a number of medals [1] .
