Player Career

Fotis Katsikaris began playing basketball in the Ionikas club system from the city of Nicaea . He played for the youth team of the club and at the age of 15 made his debut in the top division of the championship of Greece . From 1986 to 1988, Fotis Katsikaris studied in the United States and, before his debut at AEK, played for Sporting . For "AEK" spent 6 seasons. Then another 2 years he played for the club "Heraklion" , where he ended his playing career. Fotis Katsikaris spent in the top division of the championship of Greece 197 games in which, on average, scored 3.7 points per game.

Coaching career

AJC

At the end of his playing career, Fotis Katsikaris entered the AEK Coaching Headquarters, where from 1998 to 2003 he was an assistant to Dusan Ivkovic and Dragan Shakoty . During this time, the club from the capital of Greece won the Saports Cup (2000); Greece Cup (2000, 2001); Championship of Greece (2002). In 2003, he was appointed head coach of the club. In the first zone, the Fotis team in the Euroleague did not enter the Top 16 and took 4th place in the Greek Championship. In the 2004/2005 season, “AEK” in the Euroleague did not reach the quarterfinals and became the 2nd in the Greek championship.

Dynamo St. Petersburg

At the end of the season, Fotis Katsikaris moved to Dynamo from St. Petersburg . In the 2005/2006 season, the club won the bronze medals at the Russian Championships and participated in the final of the four FIBA ​​European Cup finals. Valencia

Bilbao

A few days later, Fotis Katsikaris began to train the Spanish club Bilbao , who was in the penultimate place in the national championship with 4 wins in 17 matches. The club received silver medals - the highest achievement of “Bilbao” in the history of the club and a ticket to the Euroleague .

In the 2011/2012 season, Bilbao lost in the Euroleague quarter-finals CSKA . At a similar stage, the championship of Spain gave way to Kakha Labralo .

The following season, Bilbao lost in the European Cup final to Lokomotiv-Kuban . Katsikaris became the Eurocup coach of the year [3] .

Russian national team

On December 24, 2012, Fotis Katsikaris was appointed head coach of the Russian men's national basketball team [4] . He terminated the existing contract with Bilbao, since the rules of the ACB League do not allow club coaches to simultaneously lead any team [5] . July 19, 2013 (3 days before the start of preparation for the European Championship ), the media reported that Katsikaris decided not to train the team [6] .
