Lommel [1] ( Netherlands. and limb. Lommel ) is a city in the Belgian province of Limburg , which is located in the east of northern Belgium - Flanders . The city is located south of Eindhoven , right on the border with the Netherlands .

In Lommel is the largest German military cemetery in Europe, which in 1946–49. more than 39 thousand Germans who died during the Second World War in Belgium and in the surrounding areas of Germany were reburied.
The zinc factory, operating near the city from 1902 and 1940, led to the appearance of a sand desert in this area.
