Martial Arts Careers

Start

The first battle in mixed martial arts was held in Yokohama on April 28, 2002, beating Yoshihisa Yamamoto. Large and athletic Sapp liked the Japanese public, was invited to speak at the largest K-1 and Pride FC organizations. Debut in kickboxing also took place in 2002. In both cases, he met expectations by suppressing his rivals and compensating for the shortcomings of the technique with great physical strength. In kickboxing, Bob suffered a defeat due to disqualification for finishing off a fallen opponent, which only justified his nickname “Beast”.

Triumph

With a 4-month experience in martial arts in August 2002, Sapp got a fight against Pride FC champion António Rodrigue Nogueira . Thanks to his superiority in physical strength, using a very limited arsenal of technical actions, Bob managed to give the Brazilian perhaps the toughest fight at that stage of his career and more than once put him in a critical position. At the beginning of the fifth minute of the second round, Nogueira still caught the tired Sapp at the painful reception (armbar), but the very fact that the newcomer competed with the best fighter sharply raised the price of Bob's shares [2] [3] .
