Count Pietro Verri ( Italian. Pietro Verri ; December 12, 1728 , Milan - June 28, 1797 , Ornago ) - Italian philosopher of the Enlightenment , economist, historian and writer.

Family
Pietro Verri is the eldest of four brothers who left their mark on the history of Milan and Italy.
- Verry, Alessandro (1741–1816) - Italian poet and writer.
- Verry, Carlo (1743–1823) - agronomist and politician.
- Verry, Giovanni (1745–1818) - libertarian, the alleged father of the writer Alessandro Manzoni .
Career
He began his career in the Austrian military service , which he soon left and devoted himself to the sciences.
Friend and supporter of Beccaria ; together with his brother Alessandro, he was the soul of the literary circle called the Society of the Fist, which consisted of Beccaria , Frizy , Carly, and other scholars and writers. Contributed to the publication of the famous treatise Beccaria " On crimes and punishments ."
He was vice-president of the Chamber of Accounts, then State Counselor and Chairman of the Milan Patriotic Society for the Promotion of Agriculture, Crafts and Manufactories. In 1786 , due to the conversion of the Duchy of Milan , he lost all posts in the Austrian administration. Nine years later, in Milan occupied by the French, he was appointed a member of the city government. He died in the town hall in 1797.
